About the role:
Modular is looking for junior AI Graph Compiler engineers to work on multi-framework, multi-hardware and user-extensible compiler infrastructure. The Modular Graph Compiler is a central piece of our stack that bridges the gap between frameworks and hardware for ML models. We’re looking for ambitious engineers who are willing to develop their skills and learn from an incredible team. You will contribute to the design, implementation, and integration of graph compiler features with the rest of the modular stack, and will learn communication and teamwork skills to collaborate across team boundaries.
LOCATION: This role is based out of North America or Canada. You can work remotely from home. Modular is opening an office in the Los Altos, California, so in-office work is also possible.
What you will do:
- Build an MLIR and LLVM-based machine learning compiler with scalable and high quality infrastructure
- Write generic and extensible optimizations, such as constant folding, operation fusion, model parallelization, and quantization.
- Analyze and improve performance across multiple different model architectures and ML frameworks.
- Work with other teams to provide a balanced stack that fully utilizes today’s complex server and mobile systems.
- Collaborate with machine learning researchers and engineers to guide compiler development for future ML trends.
What you bring to the table:
- 1+ years of compiler engineering experience, including via internships or academic projects
- Experience working with compilers for machine learning frameworks, such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
- Knowledge of core compiler algorithms and data structures.
- Knowledge of and experience working with MLIR and LLVM.
- Knowledge of C++, as well as, knowledge of basic GitHub workflows like pull requests.
- Creativity and curiosity for solving complex problems, a team-oriented attitude that enables you to work well with others, and alignment with our culture.
Helpful but not required:
- Experience with ML graph optimizations, parallel / distributed programming, heterogeneous ML computation, and/or code generation.
- Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related area is a plus.
The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in the US, regardless of the state, is $135,000.00 - $286,000.00 USD.
The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in Canada, is $127,500.00 - $270,500.00 CAD.
The salary for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of permissible, non-discriminatory job-related factors, which include but are not limited to education, training, work experience, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future. The total compensation for a candidate will also include annual target bonus, equity, and benefits, with equity making up a significant portion of your total compensation.
