This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney with strong business acumen and the ability to navigate complex legal landscapes with confidence and precision. As Associate General Counsel, you will work closely with our General Counsel to oversee a broad spectrum of legal matters, ensuring the company operates effectively across domestic and international markets. You will collaborate cross-functionally with every department in the company, playing a key role in structuring strategic transactions, guiding product development, deploying and overseeing internal processes, and mitigating legal risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide thoughtful legal counsel on a broad range of corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters, ensuring alignment with business objectives and risk tolerance.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, offering strategic guidance on complex legal issues, with a business first perspective.
  • Continuously research, interpret, and advise on evolving domestic and international regulations, ensuring the company remains compliant with applicable laws across multiple jurisdictions, including healthcare and AI specific requirements.

  • Partner with internal teams to develop policies and best practices related to intellectual property, data privacy, cyber security, compliance, and international legal frameworks.
  • Proactively identify and address legal risks, ensuring the company is well-positioned for expansion into global markets.
  • Based on expertise and interest, take ownership of additional legal functions, such as employment law, corporate governance, patent strategy, and government affairs.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in California.
  • 10-15 years of broad-based legal experience across industries and practice areas.
  • Proven ability to operate as a legal generalist within a lean, fast-paced startup environment.
  • Strong background in negotiating complex contracts, including cross-border transactions, IP agreements, and data privacy provisions.
  • Gravitas and executive presence, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • STEM background (e.g., an engineering degree or prior experience in a technology-driven environment).

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience in a high-growth startup, SaaS, or healthcare technology company.
  • Litigation experience

This role is ideal for a highly skilled legal professional who thrives in ambiguity, moves with confidence, balances risk while driving business objectives, and knows when to stand their ground.
