Senior Product Designer

ABOUT BASETEN

We’re a small team of builders backed by top-tier venture capital firms and angel investors including the founders of OpenAI, Figma, and DeepMind. Data scientists at breakout companies like Patreon and Pipe are already using Baseten to go from zero-to-one in solving real problems with machine learning but we’re just getting started. If you’re energized by what we’re doing and want to help us build something from the ground up, come join us!

THE ROLE

  • Drive the end-to-end product design process including building prototypes, hosting internal design reviews, iterating based on feedback, writing detailed design specs, and reviewing PRs
  • Work across our full product surface area: machine learning model deployment, data and queries, business logic assembler, and our drag-and-drop interface builder
  • Help set up and implement a design system
  • Strike the right balance between abstracting away complexity and empowering technical users with the control and flexibility they need. We’re building a technical product for technical users, but a lot of the value we provide is in taking on backend complexity for our users.
  • Seek out product feedback and conduct usability testing on your designs with customers
  • Help build out and implement Baseten’s visual brand across our product and marketing site
  • We’re a small team without levels to our job titles. The official internal title for this role is “Product Designer”, but the job responsibilities align with what would be considered a senior-level position at a larger company.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • You have experience working on developer-focused products or are excited to embrace the challenges (and opportunities!) of simplifying a technical product.
  • You have experience writing React, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • You’re skilled in designing intuitive web apps that unlock powerful functionality for technical users.
  • You’ve worked closely with engineering to ship products, learn how customers use them, and iterate towards improvement.
  • You’re comfortable prototyping and testing your designs directly with customers.

YOU'RE A GOOD FIT IF YOU...

  • Can own products and projects end-to-end. Engineers and designers at Baseten also function as PMs; we’d like everyone on the team to be able to empathize with our users, write project specs, and manage the end-to-end execution of features.
  • Are comfortable jumping into product code to help polish UI.
  • Enjoy rolling-up your sleeves and navigating ambiguity. You enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
  • Are motivated by customer problems and find joy in creating simple, elegant solutions that avoid unnecessary complexity.
  • Exercise good judgement on tradeoffs and tools needed to solve the problem and don’t over index on trendy/fashionable tech unless it’s the right tool for the job.
  • Demonstrate pride, ownership, and accountability for your work and expect the same from your teammates.

OUR CURRENT TECH STACK

  • Frontend — React + TypeScript + GraphQL
  • Backend — Python + Django + Postgres + Redis
  • Infrastructure — AWS + Kubernetes + Kubeflow + Knative + Prometheus
