Legged Robotics Software Engineer INTERN

Legged Robotics Software Interns/Coops will work cross-functionally with the Spot Team to improve robot software at the institute and around the world.  If you have a passion for developing technology for robots and use it to advance their capabilities and usefulness, you will want to join us!
As a Legged Robotics Software Intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced robotics software engineers, contribute to ongoing projects, and gain hands-on experience in developing software solutions for our cutting-edge robotic systems as a part of the Spot Software Team. Along with this you will also work on a fun demo project with one of our Boston Dynamics’ Spots. This unique opportunity will provide you with valuable insights into the practical applications of your learning and give you a chance to showcase your work. This is an onsite intern position in our Cambridge, Mass. facilities
Responsibilities
  • Work under the guidance of our robotics software engineers to produce meaningful contributions to our robotic systems.
  • Work collaboratively with research teams to gather requirements, feedback, and test your solutions
  • Maintain and support open source robotics software
  • Promote quality and reliability through regular code reviews
  • Requirements
  • 2+ years experience delivering robust code (internships, research positions and open source projects included)
  • BS or MS in computer science, robotics, physics, electrical/mechanical/aerospace engineering, or a related field
  • Strong programming skills in Python and C++
  • Familiarity with robotic frameworks and middleware (ROS/ROS2)
  • Experience with git, issue tracking, CI/CD, and modern software engineering practices
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of basic robotic concepts and principles
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Bonus
  • Experience using and/or contributing to open source software
  • Experience working with robots, controls, kinematics, machine learning
  • Experience working with quadruped robots such as Spot, Unitree Go2
  • Experience with system design
  • Experience with programming for robots and/or automation
