Operations Manager
Introduction
The Center for AI Safety is a non-profit organization based in San Francisco, dedicated to research and the advancement of the field of AI safety. We believe that artificial intelligence will be a powerful technology that will dramatically change society, and our aim is to mitigate potential high-consequence risks. We are doing this through:
- Technical and conceptual research
- Promotion of safety within the broader machine learning community
- Collaboration with academics, industry researchers, philosophers, and policy drivers who are uniquely positioned to influence the future of AI safety
We’re looking for an Operations Manager who is organized and detail-oriented. As our first Operations Manager, you will tackle a wide range of operational challenges and will build efficient systems from the ground up. The right candidate would dramatically accelerate the growth of our company and assist in the pursuit of safer AI systems.
In this role, you will:
Work with our Director of Operations in the creation, implementation, and communication of operational policies and standards throughout the organizationManage technical set-up & maintenance of internal hardware and software systemsSupport the HR function; help manage recruiting, benefits, payroll, & complianceDevelop and maintain the organization’s records & reports, including internal documentation and assessments as well as annual reports for auditsSupport the operational needs of new and ongoing research and projects (e.g. project promotion, data entry, expenses, etc.)Manage day-to-day office duties, such as food ordering and delivery, snacks, mail, office expansions, etc. We’re looking for someone who is great at:

The salary range for this role is $80,000-$100,000. We are looking for someone with 2-3 years of work experience. We are a small organization in a quickly evolving field, and we believe in-person collaboration is key to our success, so we are looking for candidates who live in the San Francisco Bay Area or are willing to relocate.
