Deepgram is seeking a hands-on Director of Revenue & AR to lead and scale our technical and operational revenue accounting as we grow. In this critical role, you’ll own revenue recognition, reporting, billing, collections, and compliance, while partnering closely with Revenue Operations to streamline systems and optimize the full order-to-cash process. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Product, and several other teams to support complex deal structures, review contracts, provide input on product packaging and pricing, and ensure accuracy and integrity in our revenue reporting. Key Responsibilities
Revenue Recognition & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain revenue recognition policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP, ASC 606, and other relevant accounting standards.
- Analyze and interpret complex contracts to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment. 
- Prepare technical accounting memos regarding complex revenue transactions.
- Working with other members of the Accounting team and external auditors, assist with sales tax compliance and reporting.
- Support the revenue accounting requirements for external and internal audits.
- Report and analyze revenue data for internal decision-making, external reporting, and reconciling to plan and forecasts.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Sales, Customer Success, Product, Legal, and Finance teams to ensure alignment on revenue-related matters. 
- Partner with Revenue Operations to optimize and maintain revenue management systems.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Participate in deal desk activities, reviewing contracts and providing guidance on revenue implications.
- Collaborate with other members of the Accounting team to advise on other strategic, technical, and/or operational matters.
Billing & Collections
- Oversee the order-to-cash process, ensuring timely and accurate billing and collections. 
- Correspond with customers to support their queries on usage, balance, and account reconciliation.
- Manage accounts receivable and implement strategies to reduce DSO (Days Sales Outstanding).
- Provide overall administration of billing tools, including continuous improvement and exploring alternative tools to streamline billing.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred. 
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Prior experience in audit, preferably with software clients at a Big 4 accounting firm.
- Proven experience in a startup environment, demonstrating adaptability and hands-on involvement.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, ASC 606, and revenue recognition principles. Familiarity with usage-based revenue models preferred.
- Proficiency with Salesforce and revenue and billing management systems.
- Experience with system implementations and process improvements,
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and project management capabilities, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders and meet tight deadlines.
- Comfortable with artificial intelligence and AI-enabled tools.
