At Modular, we are building the next generation AI/ML Compiler that delivers unprecedented performance and portability across model frameworks and compute hardware types (CPU, GPU, AI accelerators) enabling ML developers to focus on what their models do rather than how they are written. As a Compiler Engineer on our team, you will build a suite of compiler tools to transform, optimize, debug and execute machine learning models on a variety of compute platforms. This includes classical and novel graph-level optimizations as well as a comprehensive generalizable code generation. LOCATION: This role is based out of North America. You can work out of one of our offices in Palo Alto, CA or Seattle, WA, or remotely from home. 

What you will do:

  • Build MLIR and LLVM-based compilers and tools for machine learning applications.
  • Build scalable and high-quality infrastructure using well-established and emerging techniques, and push the boundaries of compiler design.
  • Analyze and improve performance across multiple different architectures and ML frameworks.
  • Work  with other teams to provide a balanced stack that fully utilizes today’s complex server and mobile systems.
  • Collaborate with machine learning researchers and engineers to guide compiler development for future ML trends.

What you bring to the table:

  • 3+ years of compiler engineering experience.
  • Experience working with compilers for machine learning frameworks, such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
  • Strong knowledge of core compiler algorithms and data structures.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience working with MLIR and LLVM.
  • In-depth knowledge of C++, as well as, knowledge of basic GitHub workflows like pull requests.
  • Experience with ML graph optimizations, parallel / distributed programming, hardware accelerators or autotuning.
  • Creativity and curiosity for solving complex problems, a team-oriented attitude that enables you to work well with others, and alignment with our culture.
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related area is a plus.

The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in the US, regardless of the state, is $157,500.00 - $253,000.00 USD. The salary for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of permissible, non-discriminatory job-related factors, which include but are not limited to education, training, work experience, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future. The total compensation for a candidate will also include annual target bonus, equity, and benefits, with equity making up a significant portion of your total compensation.
