Job Summary

As a biomedical engineering (BME) post-doc on our medical quantum sensing team, you will help design user experience feature concepts, human factors experiments, and help analyze preliminary usage data to drive design decisions in our product development towards FDA market clearance. In this role, you will work cross-functionally with internal & external stakeholders with expertise in cardiology, hardware & software engineering, and machine learning to ensure our device is designed and built to exceed our users’ expectations in their clinical workflow. A successful BME postdoc will help innovate, de-risk, and clearly communicate data-informed design choices that will make our device a delight to use while transforming cardiac care in the emergency department.

Core Responsibilities

  • Define impactful and differentiating medical product features by deeply understanding and analyzing user needs (for patients and clinical operators), sensor hardware constraints, and the data-to-diagnosis pipeline.
  • Work with sensor physics, mechanical engineering, and human factors engineering teams to develop validation experiments that derisk device concepts along the development path.
  • Develop validation study roadmaps that ensure we acquire actionable data from the most relevant representative study groups of users and stakeholders, at the correct moments in time during development, using the right types of feature prototypes and UX concepts.
  • Embody the voice of the user during cross-functional device development, ensuring that we assess engineering tradeoffs while taking fully into account the ergonomics and human factors of patients and device operators.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Recent doctoral degree in biomedical engineering or related fields.
  • Familiarity with human factors design and validation concepts.
  • Proficient in defining and articulating user & product requirements.
  • Proficient in design of experiments for statistical power
  • Proficiency with data analysis in a high-level language, preferably Python (numpy, scipy, etc.)
  • Track record of creating and analyzing benchtop prototypes for early testing.
  • Familiarity with medtech device development and approach to FDA clearance, especially for class II devices.
  • Track record of working successfully with cross-functional collaborators (e.g., Hardware & Software Engineering, Machine Learning... etc.).
  • Ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
  • Possess a growth mindset. Always seeking new learning opportunities, both professionally & personally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with mechanical engineering and design, including CAD software (e.g. Solidworks, Fusion360)
  • Proficient in working directly with clinicians, physicians, and hospitals.
  • Experience in cardiology (interventional cardiology, electrophysiology) and/or emergency medicine
  • Experience with development of novel diagnostic devices
  • Experience excelling in a fast-paced, startup environment
  • Awareness and understanding of the latest market & policy trends in healthcare
