Economist

Scale is looking for an Economist to build and optimize tasker incentives across our global AI data platform. The Economist will be responsible for designing our tasker incentive structures and building econometric models to measure tasker behaviors.

This role will distill complex economic theory and big data to non-technical audiences, requiring excellent communicative ability. We are looking for an analytical problem solver with an economics background. The Economist is responsible for analyzing market trends, advising Scale business on economic policy decisions, and developing econometric models for forecasting, among other duties. The Economist will be a key technical leader for our staff economist and partner teams at Scale on improving Scale’s AI data platform and optimizing tasker incentives and experiences.

Who you are:

You have expertise at the intersection of economic theory and data science, with a keen business acumen and hands-on experience. You can distill exceptionally complex problems to their essence and find ways to solve them. 

  • Work with staff economist and Operations leaders to identify key analytical problems and opportunities fit for econometrics to tackle 
  • Be a thought partner to Operations and Engineering executives on the strategy for internal tooling. 
  • Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to develop and maintain scalable and innovative econometric and machine learning models that deliver actionable insights and results
  • Think through both big picture implications and the small details of decisions, constantly testing, disproving, and affirming product hypotheses to identify core problems, solutions and drive continuous improvement

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in economics or Master’s in quantitative fields (such as computer science and statistics) with 2+ years of experience
  • Strong data analysis skills using SQL and Python/R
  • Mathematical foundations of statistics, machine learning, and economics
  • Experience delivering business impact based on rigorous quantitative analysis
  • Ability to work at a fast-paced startup environment

The base salary range for this full-time position in our hub locations of San Francisco, New York, or Seattle, is $148,000-177,000. Compensation packages at Scale include base salary, equity, and benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position, determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, interview performance, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.Scale employees are also granted Stock Options that are awarded upon board of director approval. You’ll also receive benefits including, but not limited to: Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage, retirement benefits, a learning and development stipend, and generous PTO. Additionally, this role may be eligible for additional benefits such as a commuter stipend.
