Our mission is to reinvent the way people learn, starting with language. We begin by teaching the next billion people English, Spanish, and French.

English is the global language of business, culture, and communication, and over 1.5 billion people around the world are actively trying to learn right now. Others dream of communicating with the half-billion native Spanish speakers across the globe. The problem is that it's nearly impossible to learn to speak a language without constant access to a speaking partner. Grammar and vocab apps don't really help – you need to actually converse with someone.

Speak is on a journey to fix this. We're creating an AI-powered experience that replicates the flow of a conversation, without needing a human on the other end. The goal is to make it radically more accessible to be able to have conversations in a foreign language and eventually help hundreds of millions of people gain fluency who otherwise wouldn't be able to.

We started on this journey over five years ago and we've still got a long ways to go. We're thoughtfully adding new team members only when we think they can truly play a big role in our mission.

Speak launched first in South Korea where we have quickly grown to become the top grossing education app in the country. We have now delivered this winning product to more than 30 countries globally and are continuing to expand to more markets in the coming months. The company is well funded, raising a recent Series B backed by investors like OpenAI, Founders Fund, Y Combinator, Khosla Ventures, Lachy Groom, Josh Buckley, and others. We’re a team of 75 based primarily in SF, Seoul, Tokyo, and Ljubljana.

About this role

Speak is growing its presence in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan — markets that are home to the majority of our subscribers — and we need dedicated support to ensure smooth operations across our APAC region. We’re looking for a People Operations Coordinator based in Korea to handle key administrative tasks across Finance, HR, and Workplace. Your role will be crucial in ensuring efficient day-to-day processes while contributing to a positive, inclusive employee experience. This is a great opportunity to grow with a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment. Entry-level applicants or those pivoting their career into GA or HR are welcome!

  • This role will start as a 6-month contract, with opportunity for full-time conversion.

What you’ll be doing

Being a culture champion, you will support our APAC employees in people operations and more:

  • People Ops - supporting daily processes in employee onboarding/offboarding, HRIS + ATS maintenance, and benefit administration

    • Support the onboarding process (e.g., setting up workstations, issuing business cards, managing equipment, and handling internal tool access)
    • Support the offboarding process (e.g., equipment retrieval and access management).
    • Maintain up-to-date employee data through HRIS management
    • Assist with onsite interview management and basic recruiting coordination
  • Finance Ops - owning daily, weekly, and monthly reports on operational spend, working closely with the rest of Speak Korea office in financial documentation and management

    • Assist with expense reconciliation and invoice processing
    • Manage Accounts Payable (A/P) and Accounts Receivable (A/R) processes
    • Support payouts to external vendors
    • Coordinate corporate card applications, issuance, and management
  • Workplace - taking responsibility as an office manager and keeping maintenance on workplace needs including, but not limited to:

    • Oversee office amenities to ensure a smooth workplace experience (e.g., snacks, meeting rooms, IT equipment)
    • Help purchase and manage necessary office equipment and supplies
    • Manage service quality from external contractors (e.g., cleaning services)

What we’re looking for

  • Previous experience in related roles, internships, or projects
  • Fluency in Korean is a must; proficiency in English preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational capabilities with high attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities
  • A positive attitude and friendly demeanor
