Our mission is to become the de facto way people learn foreign languages. We begin by teaching the next billion people English and Spanish.

English is the global language of business, culture, and communication, and over 1.5 billion people around the world are actively trying to learn right now. Others dream of communicating with the half-billion native Spanish speakers across the globe. The problem is that it's nearly impossible to learn to speak a language without constant access to a speaking partner. Grammar and vocab apps don't really help – you need to actually converse with someone.

Speak is on a journey to fix this. We're creating an AI-powered experience that replicates the flow of a conversation, without needing a human on the other end. The goal is to make it radically more accessible to be able to have conversations in a foreign language and eventually help hundreds of millions of people gain fluency who otherwise wouldn't be able to.

We started on this journey over five years ago and we've still got a long ways to go. We're thoughtfully adding new team members only when we think they can truly play a big role in our mission.

Speak launched first in South Korea where we have quickly grown to become the top grossing education app in the country. We have now delivered this winning product to more than 30 countries globally and are continuing to expand to more markets in the coming months. The company is well funded, raising a recent Series B backed by investors like OpenAI, Founders Fund, Y Combinator, Khosla Ventures, Lachy Groom, Josh Buckley, and others. We’re a team of 60 based primarily in SF, Seoul, Tokyo, and Ljubljana.

About this role

We're looking for someone to come on as the founding marketing designer for our US marketing team. The ideal candidate will be a strong generalist designer who has extensive experience collaborating with marketing teams on ads, emails, landing pages and more, is deeply user-centric, and loves to iterate, test, and learn. You’ll be the hub, working not only with marketers on our US-based team, but sharing and consolidating best practices with our marketing designers in our international markets to drive cohesion and continued innovation and learning, and helping spread those best practices as we hire contractors or launch in new markets.

What you’ll be doing

  • Partner with marketers to design our creative roadmap, synthesizing audience insights and current trends to concept winning ads, converting landing pages, and emails worth reading.
  • Own the digital asset design work for our marketing channels from ads, to landing pages, to CRM. This spans static/graphic and motion design, video editing for live action, influencer work, and more.
  • Work with contract designers and agencies to help scale our design efforts not only in the US but in our emerging markets, and create templates and brand guidelines to ensure the quality of our design.
  • Create an understanding of the performance of our creative assets, in partnership with analytics and marketing.
  • Synthesize performance data with customer insights and surveys to improve the communication of our marketing messaging and our ads performance in partnership with our marketers, iterating on assets to improve performance.

What we’re looking for?

  • 5+ years of design experience, at least 2+ years of marketing-specific experience designing ad campaigns
  • You’ve worked directly with marketing teams, iterating to improve performance of ad assets
  • Proven success in developing campaign assets across established and emerging ad platforms including Google, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Email, Podcast, and Landing Pages
  • An ideal candidate will additionally have experience designing a consumer/content-forward app, audio and speaking experiences, as well as have a personal interest in language learning
  • Solid understanding of consumer behavior and digital marketing trends across social media and CRM
  • Proficient in the latest design software: After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma and additional relevant programs
