Senior/Staff Data Scientist

About the Role:

We are hiring a world-class data scientist to shape both our user-facing and business-facing products at You.com. Your expertise in quantitative modeling, experimentation, and algorithms will be essential in tackling some of the company’s most complex engineering challenges. You will collaborate with diverse cross-functional partners across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Data Engineering to address a wide range of product and business problems.

The ideal candidate will take pride in their dual expertise as a software engineer and data scientist, leading end-to-end projects to understand user behavior and drive growth. As an early member of our data science team, your contributions will be crucial in elevating our product development and bringing scientific rigor into real-world AI applications that impact hundreds of millions of users worldwide. Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and implement the next generation of data and analytics for a fast-growing Generative AI product.
  • Work with large datasets to extract insights, build predictive models, and optimize AI algorithms.
  • Partner cross-functionally with product, marketing, sales, and engineering to align on goals and deliverables.
  • Drive the development of innovative strategies to enhance user engagement, satisfaction, and revenue.
  • Create and track success metrics. Identify the right measures of success for product teams and own the full lifecycle of those metrics from logging requirements, metrics definition, prototype pipelines, and improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and execute A/B tests, identify impactful business questions, conduct deep-dive analysis, and communicate findings and actionable recommendations to audiences at all levels to drive data-driven decisions.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and equivalent 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist solving real-world problems on web-scale data.
  • Experience leading key technical projects and substantially influencing the scope and output of others.
  • Strong technical skills with the ability to dive into the details of modeling and inference tasks.
  • Deep understanding of machine learning, recommendation systems, and data-driven product development.
  • Strong experience in statistical methods including A/B Testing, experimental design, regression, and causal inference with observational data.
  • Strong experience writing production-quality code in Python and Spark, including Spark SQL, DataFrames, Spark Streaming, RDD caching, Spark MLib, and the ability to debug and optimize Spark code.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with a passion for innovation and problem-solving.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and capable of working with minimal supervision, demonstrating a high level of independence and initiative in tackling complex problems.
