Job Description:
Shield AI is developing the world’s most advanced AI pilot for autonomous aircraft, enabling mission-critical decision-making for defense applications. Our next gen UAS represents the next generation of high-endurance, AI-driven unmanned aircraft designed for operations in contested environments.

We are seeking a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Lead to drive the design, development, and deployment of critical support systems that enable efficient operation, maintenance, and sustainment of the next gen UAS. This role is essential in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and ease of deployment for Shield AI’s autonomous aircraft by leading GSE system architecture, integration, and fielding strategies.

This position requires a deep understanding of military aviation ground support, logistics, mechanical/electrical systems, and maintenance operations. You will collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, flight operations, and sustainment teams to develop state-of-the-art ground systems that enhance aircraft readiness and mission success.
What you'll do:
  • Lead the design and development of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for the next gen UAS, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient aircraft operations.
  • Define system requirements, architecture, and integration strategies for GSE, including power systems, transport, launch & recovery, and maintenance support.
  • Work closely with engineering, flight operations, and sustainment teams to ensure GSE supports mission needs and operational readiness.
  • Oversee testing, validation, and certification of GSE components and systems to meet military and aviation standards.
  • Develop sustainment and maintenance strategies to maximize operational availability and minimize downtime.
  • Conduct trade studies and system analysis to optimize GSE for field deploy-ability, ruggedness, and maintainability.
  • Engage with DoD customers and operational stakeholders to ensure GSE meets the requirements of forward-deployed military operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in GSE reliability, lifecycle cost, and supportability.
  • Manage suppliers, subcontractors, and manufacturing partners to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of GSE systems.
  • Required qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in ground support equipment (GSE) development, aircraft sustainment, or aerospace support systems.
  • Expertise in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems used in GSE for military or aerospace applications.
  • Strong background in aircraft maintenance, sustainment, and logistics for unmanned or manned aircraft.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in the development and deployment of ground support systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, or similar) for GSE design and development.
  • Knowledge of military logistics, sustainment strategies, and DoD acquisition processes.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile development environment with evolving mission needs.
  • Preferred qualifications:
  • Prior experience supporting UAS, military aviation programs, or high-endurance aircraft.
  • Familiarity with launch & recovery systems, power management, cooling systems, and deployable infrastructure.
  • Experience with MIL-STD requirements for ground support equipment and aerospace sustainment.
  • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance (or ability to obtain one).
